Press Release Body: Having a roommate can be a very rewarding experience for someone who is just getting out from their parents home, either by going to college or starting their first job. In either of these cases, the cost of living can be very overwhelming. Another factor that a roommate can provide is to fill the void where loneliness can occur. As in all relationships, communication is very important. It can help to avoid any issues, as well as lead to huge fights.
When you are just starting out on your own, you don't have very much money. By splitting the cost of an apartment, or small house, with a roommate, you will have extra money. If you are looking for a place to live, you could find a roommate who is also looking and by pooling your money together you could possibly move into a bigger or nicer place, than what you could afford on your own.
Other costs that would be shared are the utilities. It only stands to reason that having more than one person living in the same place, more utilities will be utilized. Roommates can also discuss whether they want to split the cost of shared expenses, such as cable or telephone service, or if it would be better to just split the bills, one takes the cable bill and the other the phone bill.
An added benefit of having a roommate is the fact that you won't be coming home to an empty apartment, or house. Also, you can do things together such as share meals, help out with chores, and the grocery shopping together. Even if you aren't the best of friends, it's nice to work together on things, rather than just live together.
Communication is very important. Talking with your roommate and getting to know them is vital in avoiding any potential fights. However, lack of communication just lets the problems build and build until they get out of control and neither one of you are happy. For instance, if your roommate is messy, whereas you are a neat freak, by not speaking up, the issue will go along unchecked, leaving you stressed an unhappy, and your roommate won't have any idea as to why you are so angry with them.
By bonding with your roommate through different activities, you can insure that your cohabitation will go smoothly and possibly avoid any issues that could jeopardize the relationship and leave you both angry and full of ill will. By doing things with your roommate, you will have more chances to communicate and get to know one another. Having a roommate provides a way for you to save money for other things, such as school, since you will be sharing rent and other costs of living.
